This week will be a fun, educational week at the Pauli Murray Freedom School for Girls Leadership Development (PMFS). This week is the inaugural weeklong PMFS summit of the yearlong wraparound program. Young POC female students from the DMV will interact with staff, facilitators, and each other during a dynamic blend of workshops, mentorship, and hands-on projects specifically curated to enhance their learning experience. Participants will develop essential skills in communication, problem-solving and ethical decision-making. Seminars will be facilitated by artists, scholars, historians, activists and more from the DMV and beyond. This groundbreaking, exciting new initiative will provide young women with the knowledge, leadership skills, and civic engagement experiences necessary for personal and professional growth. The PMFS is named in honor of the trailblazing civil rights activist, lawyer, and Episcopal priest, Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray and embodies the spirit of justice, intellectual rigor, and leadership that defined Murray's legacy. The PMFS team is so excited to bring together aspiring leaders from across the region for this week-long immersive experience. Participation in this program (as a scholar or mentor) includes workshops at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Annapolis, MD and meaningful and enlightening field trips. The Summit will be July 14-19, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST each day.
